Stitch Fix #1

Alana —  January 19, 2014 — 6 Comments

Surprise! I’m adding a couple new elements to the blog – Fashion and Beauty. These have always been an interest of mine and I found it only natural to share these parts of me with you too!

Today I’d like to introduce you to Stitch Fix. My coworker told me about it. Sometimes I feel like I’m in need of help and inspiration when it comes to fashion, so I thought I’d check it out.  The basics: You fill out a style profile and a stylist will pick out items specifically tailored to your body size, shape and style. The items are shipped to you and you get to pick out what you like and return what you don’t! I received my first “fix” on Thursday. Below you can see the goodies.

Item #1: 41 Hawthorne Keagan Embellished Collar Blouse

Keagan Blouse overall_WEBThis is probably my least favorite of the five items shipped. I like the hot pink and navy colors, but the way it drapes on me made me feel a little frumpy. Also… the embellishment on the collar made me feel like I should be 65 years old and living in Florida. I do not doubt it could look great on someone, just not me. I’m returning it.

Item #2: Margaret M Kayla Skinny Jean

Kayla Skinny Jean

When I first pulled the Kayla Skinny Jean out of the box, I thoughtOoooh, boy. These are not going to work for me.” Pants that fit well are reaaaaally hard for me to find. Primarily because I have a smaller waist with curvy hips and thighs. These jeans have elastic give, so the fabric fits snug and perfectly curves around my shape. They are designed with a smaller waist and are roomier in the hips, so I do not have the typical gape at the back of the waist. If you have a smaller waist and bigger hips like me I bet you know exactly what I’m talking about. ;) At first I thought it was strange that these jeans had faux front pockets, but then realized this helps to cut down on the bulkiness on the thighs. Genius! I pulled these up and they slid on like butter. I’m keeping them!

Item #3: Catrina Beaded Braid Necklace

Catrina-Braided-Necklace-overall_WEB

Catrina-Braided-CloseUp_WEBThis is a great chunky necklace! I own one in red with a very similar design so I am returning it.

Item #4: Kim Racerback Fit & Flare Dress

Kim-Racerback-Dress_WEB Let’s not pay attention to my pasty white legs and take a look at the dress. ;) I am in the market for a cute summer sundress, but I’d rather go for one with an umpire waist. That type of fit tends to be more flattering with my body shape. I’m returning it.

Item #5: Ivy Solid Tab Sleeve V-Neck Blouse

This top has a wonderful drape and can be worn with jeans for a more casual look or can be tucked in with a skirt for a day at the office. I love the detailing of the rolled cuff with button closure at the arms. I own a shirt that is almost identical to this one. Otherwise, this would definitely be a keeper! I’m returning it.

Each fix comes with a styling card that suggests the different ways the items can be worn, so if you are like me and sometimes struggle with maximizing the potential of your wardrobe, these cards are a handy little tool.

Each fix also arrives with an itemized invoice so you know exactly what you would be paying for each item. I only chose to keep one item this time around, however if I chose to keep all five, I would receive a 25% discount on the whole purchase! Items are shipped both ways free of charge and include a postage paid package to drop in the mail.

InvoiceOverall, this was a fantastic experience. I’m drawn to a service like this for many reasons: 1). I LOVE surprises! It is fun for me to not know what is coming 2). I am interested in collecting items that I could not normally purchase in my area (I have been wanting stretchy, colored skinny jeans that flatter and have not found any in my scouring of the stores) 3). I like the idea of a stylist picking out items for me. I know there are things she would select that I would not normally pick out on my own – so it will expand my style, and I like that. 4). It’s SO convenient! I get to try on the items in my home, style them with my existing wardrobe, and I never have to step foot in a store!

Ladies, if you are interested in checking this out for yourself, I highly recommend this service. I can’t believe how easy it was! For more information, click this referral link. This is a special link that will tell the stylist I sent you.

Happy Shopping! :)

Very cool! And you look fabulous in all of the pictures. Agree about the 1st shirt, though…kinda weird and looks like Blanche from Golden Girls would wear it. You totally rock the skinny jeans. I think once I get some debt paid off I’d like to do this for me and Ivan (Trunk Club, I think, is the name of it for guys). For now I’m sticking with makeup/beauty to get me trying that stuff out. Ipsy is awesome…mainly because I love Michelle Phan. She’s adorable and a nerd, but is fantastic with makeup. :-)

LOL. Blanche. YES!!! That is exactly how I felt… maybe I should have kept it for when I am 65… it would be my “bling” top. I’ve never heard of Ipsy. Is that a tv show? website?

      • Skye Bickett

Ipsy is like Birchbox, but way better (in my opinion). It’s $10/month and has introduced me to so many new things. http://www.ipsy.com/ When I don’t like something I can trade with a friend or give something to someone. They have a forum where you can trade with other Ipsy people, but I like to trade or give to friends and family. Oh and I get cute bags each month. :-)

Interesting! I will check it out. I have heard of Birchbox but I am not super familiar with it. It looks like a fun service!

I just signed up for Ipsy. Thanks for the tip! :D

Yay! I hope you like it as much as I do. Don’t forget to check out the Ipsy and Michelle Phan YouTube channels. :-) There are other good stylists associated with it, too. Can’t wait to see your posts about those, too.
